Almost before he could walk, Yanik would take his mom’s camera and have fun wasting film and flash bulbs and so he was given the nickname “Kid Kodak”. Through the years other passions fueled his creativity like poetry, oil painting and music. He rekindled his love for photography back in 2001 when he created his first series of photographs for his massage therapy clinic. Seeing how popular the images were with his colleagues, he started TouchPhotography.com selling his fine art massage photos around the world with distributors in Canada, USA, UK and Australia.
As his passion grew, so did his skills as a photographer. Director of a massage therapy school, Yanik started shooting more and more for stock agencies part-time slowly building an impressive collection of images purchased around the world. Clients such as Oprah.com, About.com, The Wall Street Journal, and CopyBlogger.com (just to name a few) have all licensed his images. His connections in the alternative health field led him to his first major publishing contract with Delmar Learning (now Cengage Learning) shooting their flagship massage book: Theory & Practice of Therapeutic Massage 4th edition.
From there, the photography contracts started flowing in to the point where he took the decision back in 2006 to become a full-time photographer. He continued to develop his ever-expanding stock image library as well as building his client base in the educational publishing world. Being a teacher at heart, in 2008 Yanik decided to share his photography knowledge through various photography tutorials on his blog Yanik’s Photo School. His 100% free blog became an instant success and today roughly 36 000 people visit the blog every month.
Yanik’s latest skill set includes video and video editing. Since 2008, he’s been shooting and editing videos for both personal and professional projects with clients like Loreal Redken. He enjoys combining photography and videography in most of his projects giving his work a richer dimension.
Yanik is also a huge iPhone fan using the iPhone’s camera almost daily and sharing his photos and thoughts with his followers on both Facebook and Twitter. Join him on his photographic journey and follow him on Facebook and Twitter.
